Retry and alert when a data-source sync fails

Occasionally I encounter a data-source  sync-failure when the system attempts to sync with the data-source when  a user is updating a data source (with a cell in the first column empty). It would be great if the system could re-attempt a sync several times after the initial failure before giving up completely.

It would also be nice if the system-administrator could receive an email alert when a sync failure occurs.
