Can I send a task to a group of people using the Rest API?

Is it possible to use the Forms On Fire REST API sent a task to a group of people rather than to just a single pre-determined person? I have a group of individuals that I would like to receive a single task, and whoever, gets to it first should be able to fill it out. We only need the 1 task to be submitted, not one per person. How can I implement this? Thank you.
